On ya bike!

Well we’re out of the World Cup and today Andy Murray crashed out in straight sets to rising star, Grigor Dimitrov. After a very promising first week, the British No.1 and reigning Wimbledon champion was found a little too flat. With many top seeds coming under pressure this year by the ‘young guns’ there is a great opportunity for fresh names to enter the Wimbledon hall of fame. None more so than my tipped favourite for the ladies singles, Eugenie Bouchard; the 20 year old Canadian was Wimbledon girls champion in 2012 and is now carrying that success through to senior level. Women’s tennis has never looked so good! As Wimbledon draws to its conclusion all eyes are upon Le Tour de France and Le Tour Yorkshire is ready for the Grand Départ 2014. The buzz of bikes has most certainly spilt over into Teesdale and everyone is discussing where they are pitching for their view point. As the crow flies, Cotherstone sits only about 15 miles from the most northern part of stage one. Many will likely be heading to watch the climb at Buttertubs pass; hopefully many visitors will cross the border to see the wonders of Teesdale.

Many local brewers have been creating Le Tour themed beers to tickle the taste buds and imagination of the thousands of visitors that will be descending into Yorkshire. One of those beers is from the Wensleydale Brewery and aptly named ‘Top Cog.’ It’s a refreshing 4% pale ale with a nice balance of fruity Chelan hops. It has a good bitter and clean mouth feel with a slightly dry finish. It’s on the bar now and could well have departed before the Grand Départ!!

Here are some other local beers that you will likely see on your travels.
